Compare & Contrast

Each seasonal square on the map is a small picture, but in the Fairy Realm it represents a full, living world.

Winter isn’t just the tiny snowy scene on the map — it’s a whole world of sledding, skiing, ice skating, and sparkling snow.

Spring is kite flying, bike riding, blooming flowers, and May poles.

Summer is surfing, swimming, high dives, and ice cream.

Fall is carving pumpkins, jumping into leaf piles, lantern walks, and football games.

In this activity, students choose two seasonal worlds and compare what happens inside them.

They use the small map squares as “portals,” then imagine the full world behind each one.

This helps them practice comparing and contrasting, build descriptive language, and understand that each season represents a complete world within the Realm.

Instructions:

Choose two seasonal worlds (e.g., Winter vs. Summer).

Show students the small map squares and explain that each one represents a full world with many activities.

Brainstorm what happens in each world (e.g., Winter = sledding; Summer = surfing).

Students list details for each world.

Use a Venn diagram or T‑chart to compare and contrast.

Students share similarities and differences using complete sentences

Variations:

All Four Seasons: Compare all four worlds at once.

Paragraph Writing: Turn the comparison into a short paragraph.

Partner Talk: Students discuss before writing.

Picture Prompts: Show seasonal activity images (sledding, surfing, etc.) to support imagination.

Creative Twist: Students invent one new activity for each world.
